Burns
Burns are a common household or industry injury, but many people are unsure exactly what to do to assist someone who has suffered a burn.
Here’s what you should do:
Place the burn under cold running water for a minimum of 10 minutes
Cover the burn and keep the dressing moist
Remove constrictive clothing or jewellery before swelling occurs
Be aware that burns to the face and neck can also affect the airway
Reassure the patient
Here’s what you should not do
Don’t apply creams ointments or butter
Don’t use adhesive dressings
Don’t touch or remove anything stuck to the burn
