Preamble
Under its Constitution, the Wellington Free Ambulance Service can grant membership to local authorities and to individuals in a form and under a policy, which it sets out from time to time and publishes, in summary form, in its Annual Report. This document represents that policy and will stay in force from the date of its adoption until such time as it is withdrawn or amended by the WFA Board.
In granting membership, the Board of the WFA is giving recognition to those entities and individuals who have supported and have the potential to support WFA into the future, and is providing them the opportunity to support, influence and be involved with the governance and direction of the service.
In accepting membership, entities and individuals are expressing their support for WFA and their understanding of membership as set out in this policy.
The Purposes of Membership
The Board of the WFA will seek to appoint as members, entities and individuals who:
wish to have an opportunity to influence the direction of WFA and the Constitution under which it operates;
support our free-to-the-patient service;
believe in the goals we aim for and the benefits we bring;
are able to promote and support the interests of the Service within the wider community to whatever extent they deem with our support to be appropriate and possible;
can represent to the Service the broad interests of the wider Wellington community to whom our services are delivered.
Cost of Membership
There is no fee for membership of the WFA.
Responsibilities
The management of WFA is responsible for having in place a programme of support for the membership policy. This will include such elements as: maintaining the register of members; supporting the briefing of members on the activities of the service and on appeals and specific events; identifying specific issues requiring the attention or support of members; inviting members to the annual general meeting and any special meetings.
The Board of WFA will support this membership programme by undertaking personal liaison with existing members, and approaching (after Board discussion) potential members, working in close consultation with the management of the service. Board members will identify and approach potential members on a planned basis; for existing members, Board members will ensure that members consider they are kept well briefed on WFA’s activities and have every opportunity to provide feedback on and input to the service and those responsible for its governance and direction.
At Wellington Free Ambulance, we are proud of the professional emergency care we have bought the people of Greater Wellington since 1927 - we are the only metropolitan ambulance service in New Zealand that is free!
Members play an important part in our work, supporting and promoting our work around the region and ensuring that we are in touch with the community's needs.
Why have membership?
Wellington Free Ambulance is a service run by the community, for the community. We are an incorporated society with members who come from all walks of life.
Members perform two important functions for us. They promote and support our interests in the community. They also feed back to us the interests and needs of the people we serve. A member must be someone who believes in the goals and benefits of our unique free service.
