Wellington Free Ambulance 2008 Postal Appeal

Thursday 8 May is the launch of the 2008 WFA Postal Appeal, with donation envelopes being placed in letterboxes throughout the greater Wellington area over the next few weeks.

As the sole emergency services provider for the greater Wellington area, Wellington Free Ambulance responds to an average of 116 patients every day - around one every twelve minutes.

Whether it's a cardiac arrest victim, a vehicle accident or a sick child, if you call 111 for an ambulance in an emergency, our highly skilled paramedics are there to help - and all at no cost to the patient. In fact, we are the only free ambulance service in a New Zealand city.

It isn't easy being free. Every year it costs over $13 million to keep our fleet of 22 frontline ambulances on the road and to train paramedics to staff them. Unlike most other emergency services, we are not fully funded by Government agencies - each year we rely on the immense generosity of the Wellington public to cover our $3 million shortfall in funding.

Your donation will help us to equip our staff with the vehicles, medical equipment and the training required to help the people of greater Wellington.
