It costs about $13 million annually to run Wellington Free Ambulance. Unlike the New Zealand Police and Fire sectors (which are fully funded by the Government), only 75% of the operational budget is met by our contracts with the Ministry of Health and ACC.
The balance, more than $3 million, is raised from:
Sponsorship from businesses and organisations
Local Council Grants
Grants from Charitable Trusts
General Donations and Public Appeals
Fundraising Events
as well as the Service’s own resources.
It is only through the continued support from the Greater Wellington community that we can remain the only free-to-the-patient ambulance service in New Zealand.
